Senior Vice President, Human Resources

James DeVries is senior vice president, human resources for the Allstate Insurance Company and is a member of Allstate's senior management team. As senior vice president human resources, DeVries is responsible for developing the company's human resources strategy, and the full range of tools, techniques, policies and programs to enable business leaders in making better, metric-driven talent decisions to support organizational strategy.

DeVries has a diverse background as a human resources and business executive with experience in multiple industries including financial services, telecommunications and consumer products. Prior to joining Allstate, in March of this year, DeVries was senior vice president of human resources at the Principal Financial Group from 2000 until February 2008, where he was responsible for full functional human resources. Before joining the Principal Financial Group, he held a similar role as human resources vice president at Ameritech - Monitoring Services Division, where he was also responsible for real estate, fleet management and procurement. Prior to this role, DeVries held human resource roles at Quaker Oats, Leaf and Andrew Corporation where he gained in-depth knowledge of human resource strategy, policy and procedures.

DeVries is currently a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. He is a past board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Cental Iowa and the Des Moines Civic Center.

DeVries received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and human resources from Trinity College, a Masters of Science in industrial relations from Loyola University and a Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management.
